"Home" • Dwellings near Sedona, AZ • Photograph by Susie Reed

Explore one of Sedona’s finest archaeology sites with eminent rock art photographer Susie Reed who’s been documenting and researching petroglyphs, pictographs, archaeological and sacred sites in the American Southwest for over 18 years. Along the way, she’s met several Native Americans, shaman, archaeologists, Forest Service workers and others who’ve taught her a great deal. Through her photos, writings, speaking and teaching Reed shares what she’s discovered.

During this fascinating afternoon she’ll discuss how and why rock art may have been made, its possible interpretations, functions and spiritual nature. She’ll talk about power spots, what makes a site sacred and show some of her remarkable photos in which she essentially restores rock art by adeptly using modern technology to bring out ancient images that are now faded.

She’ll then accompany the group on a picturesque off road excursion to visit some amazing 700 year old cliff dwellings and an array of rock art. This is a rare opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the ancients and see and experience what they did. A U.S. Forest Service permitted company will provide transportation. Please dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.
