Using your photos she’ll show how good your pictures can be made to look with some of Photoshop’s best tools. Reed also helps artists prepare submissions for galleries, exhibits and competitions. She’s judged several photo contests, which gives her a unique insider’s perspective. Beautiful is the word most often used to describe Susie Reed’s photos. She sensitively captures her subjects taking pictures so vibrant and alive people say they smell the flowers, her fruit and vegetable photos make their mouths water and her rock art pictures transport them to archeological sites.

Her work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries including the De Young Museum, the Cooper Hewitt Museum and the International Museum of Photography. They’ve also appeared on many products and in several publications and calendars.

Susie Reed is a well-known, eminent photographer of prehistoric and historic Indian rock art, which she’s been documenting and researching in the Sedona area since 1995. While following her passion she’s met many archaeologists, Forest Service workers, Native Americans, shaman and others who’ve taught her a great deal about archaeology, sacred sites, spirituality, ancient traditions, cultures and more. Through her photos, writings, speaking and tours she shares what she’s discovered. Some call her an archeologist and conservationist for her efforts.

With her keen eye, good instincts and modern technology Susie Reed brings out rock art in her photos that looks faded today due to long exposure to the elements. She’s become quite accomplished at virtually restoring pictographs and petroglyphs in her photos. She considers herself a collaborator with the artists whose wondrous creations she magically brings back to life. Archaeologists study her pictures to better see and understand the rock art she sensitively interprets and honors with her work.

The role Susie Reed’s photographs play in documenting Sedona’s archeology is important to historical records and preservation of the area. Her pictures of rock art, archaeological digs and cultural events are in the Coconino National Forest archives and thanks to an artist’s grant from the Sedona Arts and Culture Commission they’re in several Sedona Visitor and Information Centers. Her beautiful, fascinating, critically acclaimed photos are widely collected.

Susie Reed has taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, California College of the Arts, the Sedona Arts Center, Sedona Photofest and elsewhere. She offers clear, easy to understand guidance to photographers of all levels.
