Enjoy a beautiful ride from Sedona to Wupatki with a stop along the way for a picnic lunch at the Painted Desert Vista. (Food is not provided.) At Wupatki Park Ranger Elliot Shultz will guide you to see Sinagua and Kayenta rock art, pueblos and grasslands as he shares information about this area that was occupied between AD 1100 - 1250.

Susie Reed and Pink Jeeps will lead this extended tour. You'll feel like you have stepped back in time as you explore and learn about Sinagua pictographs, petroglyphs, cliff dwellings and the Native Americans who inhabited the site from AD 1150 - 1250. Reed, considered a foremost photographer of Southwestern rock art, is quite familiar with Honanki after shooting an excavation and restoration project there for years.

About Explore Ancient Wonder Events

The annual Explore Ancient Wonders events are activities held each March in honor of Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. Now in its sixth year, events have included talks by archaeologists and artists, specially customized archaeology tours led by experts and gallery receptions featuring artists whose work has been influenced by Arizona’s rich Native American history.


These events serve to inform, educate and expose the public to Arizona’s archaeology treasures, their value and importance and ways to protect them. Goldenstein Gallery, Keep Sedona Beautiful, the National Park Service, Pink Jeep Tours and Susie Reed Photos have collaborated to present these activities.

Susie Reed does talks and beautiful slide show presentations for camera clubs, resorts, hotels, organizations, schools, cultural events, festivals, galleries and elsewhere. She speaks about rock art, archaeology, Sedona's natural wonders, preservation and photography.

Her tales of adventures and coincidences she's had while following her passion to photograph rock art are as colorful as her fascinating photos. She shares unique insights about how and why rock art was made and its possible uses and interpretations that she's come to know from years of exploration, research and Native Americans, docents, Forest Service guides, archaeologists, shaman and others she's met along the way.

Susie is a conservation photographer whose beautiful photos bring attention to the value of vulnerable archaeological sites and open lands in need of protection. She explains ways people can make a difference by following site etiquette, volunteering and contributing to various organizations. Her heartfelt presentations about at risk ancient sites and stunning landscapes in the Sedona area have moved many to action.
