Preparing Photos of Artwork for Gallery, Juried Exhibits and Contest Submissions

Saturday • January 21st • 2 – 4 pm • Sedona Arts Center • South Classroom

Cost: $30 • Open to artists of all types and levels.

Galleries, juried exhibitions and contests often require submissions be photographs of artwork. Preparing them properly is an important step towards achieving successful results, but understanding how to do so can seem daunting... In this workshop Susie Reed will guide participants through the process and discuss how to select good artwork to submit.

Using Photoshop and Photoshop Elements she’ll demonstrate how to convert digital photo files to the correct size(s), type(s) and color profiles for various types of submissions. She’ll show how to crop and resize pictures and save them in different formats (jpg, tiff, gif, psd, etc.) for online, CD and print reproduction. Sometimes multiple sizes and types photos are needed for use on websites, in ads, announcements, catalogs and more.

Participants are encouraged, if possible, to bring a laptop and good high-resolution photo files of their artwork to class so they can adjust their pictures with Reed’s guidance and assistance. Artists of all media are welcome. Free trial versions of Photoshop may be downloaded from www.adobe.com/downloads, which can be used during the workshop. If you photograph your artwork yourself please do so with your camera set to maximum resolution. If you’d like local references to people who can photograph your artwork contact info@susiereedphotos.com for a list.
