FEBRUARY 4th, 2011, 5 – 8 pm • GALLERY RECEPTIONS: Susie Reed has two artist receptions happening in Sedona on February 4th. One is at Goldenstein Gallery where she regularly shows her photographs. The other is at the Sedona Arts Center's Main Gallery, where she's participating in their Faculty Show. Both galleries are located near one another in Uptown Sedona. See below for addresses.
FEBRUARY 20th, 2011, 1 - 2:30 pm • FREE ROCK ART TALK AT SEDONA ARTS CENTER: Susie Reed is giving a free talk about prehistoric rock art on Sunday, February 20th, from 1 – 2:30 pm at the Sedona Arts Center commencing in the Main Gallery, followed by a presentation in the South classroom. She’ll show photos, share tales of remarkable adventures she's had photographing the subject and discuss the role instincts and intuition play in the artistic process. She’ll also answer questions and sign her 2011 Southwest Rock Art, Farmer’s Market and Grapes & Vineyards calendars. Cost: FREE. MARCH 4th, 2011, 5 – 8 pm • GOLDENSTEIN GALLERY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK RECEPTION MARCH 19th, 2011, 1 - 4 pm • SEDONA ARTS CENTER • PHOTOSHOP WORKSHOP: Spend an afternoon learning insider Photoshop tips from award winning photographer Susie Reed who'll demonstrate tools and techniques she uses to create vibrant, beautiful photos. She'll show effective ways to correct and enhance pictures, including how to brighten and enrich muddy, flat images. She'll help students turn good pictures into great ones by helping them understand some of Photoshop's capabilities. Participants will work with their own photos during the class so they'll be able to see immediate results. Cost: $50. APRIL 1st, 2011, 5 – 8 pm • GOLDENSTEIN GALLERY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK RECEPTION ARIL 23rd, 2011, 1 - 4 pm • SEDONA ARTS CENTER • SEDONA PHOTO SHOOT: Go on a photo shoot at Sedona's scenic Airport Overlook with award winning photographer Susie Reed who'll provide photo tips, talk about camera settings, what types of files to shoot (jpg or raw), composition, exposure adjustments and more. Students are certain to be inspired by stunning views and Reed's insightful instruction. This is a unique opportunity to take photos in the field with a seasoned professional by your side to answer questions. Cost: $50. MAY 6th, 2011, 5 – 8 pm • GOLDENSTEIN GALLERY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK RECEPTION MAY 21st, 2011, 1 - 4 pm • SEDONA ARTS CENTER • PHOTO CRITIQUE & PICTURE TALK: Join critically acclaimed fine art and commercial photographer Susie Reed for a lively afternoon of looking at and talking about pictures. This is an opportunity for photographers to get helpful feedback and insight about their work from a seasoned professional. Reed will critique participants' photos and discuss what can be done at shoots and with computer software to improve pictures. She'll provide photo tips and talk about how to effectively edit pictures based on whom they are being presented to - be it clients, friends, family, for photo contests, social networks or elsewhere. Drawing from her experience judging photo contests, she'll share insights about what some judges look for and what they'd prefer not to see. She'll also discuss how photographers can see better, develop their own unique eye and use their instincts to inspire creative choices. She'll share what can be done at photo shoots and on the computer to enhance images, explain the different types of files to create for print, the Internet and projection, demonstrate effective Photoshop tools, discuss composition and criteria to use for editing. She'll give thought provoking assignments and critique photos. She'll also discuss the role inspiration, instincts and intuition play in the creative process and provide tips for entering photo contests based on her experience as a judge. DECEMBER 2nd, 2011, 5 – 8 pm • GOLDENSTEIN GALLERY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK RECEPTION DECEMBER 12th, 2011, 5:30 - 6:30 pm • SEDONA ARTS CENTER WORKSHOP - INSIDE THE JURYING PROCESS FOR THE ARTISTS: In this workshop Susie Reed will provide tips for submitting artwork of all kinds to galleries, shows, competitions and juried exhibitions. She’ll share an insider’s view of criteria judges’ use to select winners and discuss what some prefer not to see. She’ll explain how to prepare artwork for submission including how to photograph it and the types and sizes of pictures to create for online, CD or DVD submissions. She’ll talk about the emotional side of being accepted or rejected and suggest ways artists can successfully navigate being in a gallery. JANUARY 6th, 2012, 5 – 8 pm • GOLDENSTEIN GALLERY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK RECEPTION JANUARY 21st, 2012, 2 - 4 pm • PREPARING PHOTOS OF ARTWORK FOR GALLERY, JURIED EXHIBIT AND CONTEST SUBMISSIONS CLASS • SEDONA ARTS CENTER: In this class artists of all types will learn how to prepare photographs of their artwork to submit to galleries, juried exhibitions and contests. Being able to properly do so can help improve one’s chances of success. Reed will demonstrate how to convert digital photo files to the correct size(s) and color profiles, show how to crop and save the right types of files (jpg, tiff, gif, psd, etc.) for online, CD and print reproduction. JANUARY 26th - FEBRUARY 2nd, 2012, Thursdays, 1 - 3 pm • PHOTOGRAPHERS' FORUM... A CLASS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS WANTING TO TAKE THEIR WORK TO THE NEXT LEVEL • SEDONA ARTS CENTER: This is a 3-part forum for intermediate and advanced photographers to share and discuss their work, receive feedback and explore some effective Photoshop tools that can be used to improve pictures. Through Photoshop demonstrations and adjusting their own pictures in class participants will discover ways to fine-tune photos. Through critiques and help with editing they’ll learn how to wisely select images to use for personal and professional purposes. She’ll show how to convert digital photo files to the correct sizes, color profiles and types (jpg, tiff, gif, psd, etc.) needed for posting online, email, CDs, prints and gallery, juried exhibitions and contest submissions. Each may require different sizes and types of photo files.
